is black backround and black gravel really gonna make my aquarium look better?
i just asked a confusing question awhile ago and someone replied... he said that black background brings the color up and black gravel make the plants look better but why? i have a light brown gravel in my tank and i imagined it to be black and it really looks better. and if my tank background is black , how can it bring up the color of the fishes and plants? and also whats the difference between black gravel and brown gravel? do the black gravel make my cardinal tetras healthier or does it make my cardinal tetras shine brighter?
oh! now i get it! because in a black environment its easier to notice the brighter colored fish and in a white environment its easier to notice the blacker colored fish right?

Dark colors for light colored fish. Always makes them pop. Lighter gravel for the darker fish.
I go with natural polished gravel, it gives it a more natural look.
You got it. But you can get rather bored of black. At least I did. So I opted for a more natural look, like I said the natural pebbles and some larger stones. I even brought back some slate from camping and river rocks I used as well.
black reflects color and white absorbs it. so a black background and black rocks will make the colors look brighter and white will make them look dull. especially if you have neons they will stand out a lot against a black background.

I personall thing that a black background looks better and black gravel. At my local fish store all of the tanks have a black background and it really makes the fish look better.

if it is a dark coloured fish use light coloured gravel.this will make the fish bright.if its a light coloured fish then use a dark coloured gravel:)
You could do black gravel and mix a little of your favorite color in. I saw a package once that had mostly black gravel with a little bit of colored rocks added in (green and blue), it was labeled “starry night”. I thought it was awesome…
