is it safe to make your own 3d aquarium background for piranhas? Also, will they pick at the foam?
I am thinking of creating DIY project, 1) very cheap 2) makes the tank look great 3) More spots for them to hide ( caves) ,thanks

Not worth the risk in my opinion, I find driftwood is an ideal way to go.
I think it’s completely doable. Check this forum. They have HUGE DIY section and a lot of projects related to custom DIY 3d backgrounds. Hope it helps. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/
Absolutely! There are tons of sites on how to do it, but I found this one:

Just search “diy aquarium background” there are also a lot of sites that mean then to be used for terrariums, but its the same idea. I don’t think they’ll pick at it, they’re carnivores & don’t pick like a herbavore/omnivore would.
EDIT: ha! I guess that cichlid forum is good if two people suggested it!
