Okay...so I'm almost done setting this tank up. I am adding some RO/DI water to it so it is taking a while for the water to drip. These pictures were taken yesterday so I'm very close to having all of the water in.
This is what I have FYI
1. 29 gallon aquarium.
2. 20 gallon sump.
3. Heater
4. Penguin hob filter-up to 70 gallons
5. Filter floss between baffles
6. Koralia 2
7. Powerhead-160 gph
8. bubbler
9. 2x60 watt pc light
10. Bioballs
I still need to add a blue background and my light (2x60 watt PC). I have the light but lost the timer for it. I need to buy a new one.
I am probably forgetting something. Here are some pictures. I went with white sand instead of black. It's easier to find and a little cheaper. Plus I think it looks better with the white rock.
I'm looking for suggestions.
What would you change?
What fish would go well with it?
What don't you like about it?
What do you like about it?
Thank you.

This is a freshwater tank.

I would invest in one showpiece fish
Once fancy goldfish would be beautiful:

That or a Spotted Green Puffer would be an entertaining challenge
Do lots of research before you buy!!
Well, it’s not very colorful, so I think it would be very nice if you got really colorful fish. That way, your fish will contrast with the bland background creating a very good effect.
I like the setup. If it were my aquarium, I’d go with a black background. I don’t really like blue backgrounds as they look fake and tacky to me. I prefer natural colours such as black, white, grey and tan.
I recommend the following. Each bullet is a different stocking option, so not all the fish at once, obviously.
~A school of 10-12 small schooling fish such as rasboras, danios, tetras, etc. and one “dwarf” pleco such as the clown, zebra or bristlenose.
~A school of six otocinclus/corydora catfish or one “dwarf” pleco, and two or three dwarf gourami’s.
~A group of four mollies/guppies/platies/swordtails and a school of six otocinclus/corydora catfish or one “dwarf” pleco.
~A group of four guppies/platies/swordtails (mollies grow too large) and one or two dwarf gourami’s.
~A pair of the smaller varieties of cichlids such as keyhole, rams, yellow labs, peacock, etc. and one “dwarf” pleco.
I don’t like that the aquarium doesn’t have very much colour. The fish will add colour, but I recommend live plants. You can also have a little homemade cave type thing made out of a flowerpot laying on its side. I recommend putting it right in front of the white rock the black and white one is leaning up against, between that and the rock formation.
I like that you have chosen a nice natural looking setup, and you have sand instead of gravel. I like that you’ve arranged the rocks to be in a specific arrangement, especially where there’s a little hole for fish to swim through them.
is it for saltwater fish? thats what it seems like, if so i have no ideah, but its nice looking
but for freshwater, it looks like your useing up too much swimming space with rocks. and you have no tunnels for hiding and not enough tall plants for hiding behind. and many rocks will raise the ph of the water to dangerous levals.
