I have a 29 gallon aquarium with black sealant and i just bought it two days ago. I got the filter, gravel, decor and plastic plants up and filled it with water. everything you were suppose to do before putting fish in it. added some AFI aquarium salt and water conditioner. my concern is, when i was taping the background, i noticed a small chip on the inside of the tank where the corners are, its in the middle of the tank, and its covered by the black sealant and its about the size of half of the top of a pencil eraser. should i be worried about it cracking and leaking later or am i over reacting to something minor? it looks like whoever made it, a small piece of glass chipped off and he still used it to make the aquarium. i bought it from petsmart and it has no leaks at all. Ive been checking up on it atleast 5 times a day and it doesnt seem to get bigger. i mean it is inside the sealant so it shouldnt get any worse right?
i was thinking about adding more sealant to add a second coating, but im not sealanter and it does look very nice with just the black on the edges, i know for a fact i would get the sealant messy in that spot and might regret it later while looking at it. i know i would do this because when im bored with hot glue, i end up making hot glue figurines like a snowman or just alot of strings of hot glue. lol. its quite amusing

How much should I sell this aquarium for?

I'm trying to downsize a bit since I'm moving and I also need some money. I have extra tanks and aquarium supplies so I thought I'd set up another tank and sell it, therefore getting money and getting rid of stuff, which is what I need to do right now. So, I have a 15 gallon tank, but it has no hood or canopy or whatever. I put in a brand new Fluval U1 filter, 50 watt heater, and an air pump. I also put rocks, two plants, and a castle ornament. The filter also has a new extra cartridge and I put a background on the tank. How much do you think I could sell that for? Also, I have a 10 gallon tank, do you think I should do the tank set-up in there to sell it, and then sell the 15 gallon by itself separately? Neither tank has a hood thing though. Please let me know what you think, about the prices and how I should sell it (15 gallon set up and 10 gallon separate, or vice versa, and what prices would be best for each). I need to get rid of stuff since I won't have as much space and some money would help so much with the moving. Thanks.

Discus or Rainbowfish?

Welcome to my first question, lol.

I'll get right to the point here. I've recently come to posses a beautiful 70 gallon aquarium with all the bells and whistles used for a very good price. I've been keeping fish for less than a year, but in that time I've become very learned in the ecology of an aquarium environment and I plan to make this 70 gallon a naturally planted type aquarium based on Diana Walstad's model. I run a 10 gallon aquarium with the same concept and the results are so beautiful and low maintenance that I couldn't imagine making anything else.

So the question is, should I fill my new tank with Discus or Rainbowfish? I'm a little weary with discus because they are notorious for needing very clean water and specific parameters in water quality (even though I've also read that modern domestic discus are much more hardy then their previous generations).
Although my experience is fairly low, I know that I could keep these fish successfully. I also don't want to end up staring at a PH gauge all day stressing about the health of my fish.

On the other hand, Rainbow fish are an attractive and active fish which fit well in a community and can tolerate many water parameters from mineral content, PH, etc. They also lack the certain docility that discus have which I find interesting and entertaining in fish. I specifically have a great desire to keep forktail rainbowfish because of their interesting look and personality.

So I'll point out my plans for each scenario and hopefully some of you can give me advice

With discus
~Group them with a large school of harlequin rasboras (20+). They share similar needs in water quality and will make a good peaceful addition to the tank.
~2 Honey Gourami
~1 Betta? (Likely the same one I have in my current 10 gallon tank)
~3-5 discus total will be the centerpiece fish of the aquarium.
~The tank will be filled with more small grassy plants and less tall stem plants to accommodate the discus' taller body structure.

With rainbowfish
~Keep a large variety of different types of rainbowfish including turquoise, boesemani, forktail, australian and madagascan.
~Include some platys (6+). My local mom and pop pet shop has some really pretty sunburst platys.
~1 Betta. I'm confident that my betta will fit in just fine with all the rainbowfish whereas I'll have to be more cautious with the discus.
~Include a larger background of tall stem plants to help hide the tank background and provide stuff for the fish to swim around including amazon swords and flowering lotus plants.
~Add a powerhead or two to the tank for the rainbowfish to swim against a little.

So as you've already found, I've thought about this quite a bit already. Although the filling & aquascaping of my tank is a far off thing (At least two more months) I'd love to hear some info and opinions from people who have kept any of these fish.

Aquarium background help!!?

I have to male betta's in a ten gallon divided tank. The divider is slightly see thru, and the bigger king veiltail is constantly flaring at the other crowntail. I tried covering it up with plants, but it doesn't work. My veiltail has flared so much that he has a tear in his fin that gets bigger and bigger. My question is:

Can I put aquarium background IN the tank to cover the divider. If so, how do I get it to stick?

Please help soon!!!!
Could I put laminated black paper taped to the divider in my fish tank?

Can you critique my internship cover letter?

I am applying for an internship at my local aquarium, and need some input on how my cover letter is. Just some background info: the cover letter requires you to apply to up to three of the listed internships in order of preference. It also asks for your career goals and what days you're available to work. What do you think?

To whom it may concern:

I am delighted to apply for the internships available at the ******** Aquarium this summer. My unique combination of work experience and my status as a dean’s list biology major at the University of ************ in my junior year make me an ideal candidate for a summer internship with The ******** Aquarium.

I have had extensive coursework in biology, including marine biology, as well as general and organic chemistry. I have also acquired laboratory skills in both fields by successfully performing several experiments, including chemical reactions and analyzing specimens through a microscope. That is why I am firstly applying for the Water Quality Analyst Internship.
