I currently have a 10 gallon tropical community tank aquarium. I have Danios, Tetras, a ghost shrimp and a mystery snail. I was wonder what type of plant I should pick for my tank. I've never had a live plant before, so I don't know much about them. I did read about them a little bit. I am also not looking to breed plants, or have little plants popping up everywhere. I just really want the one for now.
I want a background plant that is easy to manage and that grows under 12 inches. I have about 1-1.5 inches of gravel at the bottom of my tank. I'm going to be placing it either by my heater, since I'm not sure if it can be touching or on my heater to hide it, or in the corner of the tank to hide the tubes for the undergravel filter system I have set up. I have the light in the tank on a timer for 12 hours a day. I can increase a couple hours if needed.

I looked up some plants at petsmart and petco just to look at a few, but once I make my choice I will be going to a small petshop in my town. Here's what I've come down to:

- Moneywort plant
- corkscrew vallisneria plant
- green and white acorus plant
- java fern plant
- Onion plant
- Hygrophila difformis
- Egeria densa
- Cryptocoryne retrospiralis
- Cryptocoryne balansae
- Anubias lanceolata
- Amazon Sword

Free floating is an option, since I've read that Neon tetras prefer darker places and floating plants can help. I cannot attach it to driftwood or rocks, since I do not have any. It needs to be fully submerged and I would prefer the roots to be under the gravel. I've also read that mystery snails will eat the plant's dead leaves, so something safe for my snail to eat and to climb on would be great!

Please give me your top 3-5 choices and any advice is gladly accepted! :)
Thank you very much!
Also, I have a couple of inches of room to play with (for the bottom of the plant, the top can be bigger), If necessary I will remove one of the three plastic plants I currently have (Small, medium, and large).

I have this fish tank and I'm pretty sure it is a 30 gallon. It will be a tropical fish tank, I was wondering about stocking because I've only had 10 gallons before and I wasn't allowed to use the 30 gallon. So I first thought about what decorations I'll have in the tank. I have never used the backgrounds sold in pet stores, but the tank has to stay in the basement and I don't really like the wall that the tank sets in front of. So I think I will just get a plain blue background or maybe a blue one with bubbles. Then I thought about decorations. My brother has some old driftwood so if it is clean then I think I may use it. I don't really care whether or not it looks natural. In my 10 gallon tank I have some plants and a small piece of driftwood. So you think it will be all natural, then right up front in the middle is Spongebob Squarepant's pineapple house. So natural or not, it just doesn't matter to me. So back to my 30 gallon. I'm sure I will have some plants. I'm not sure if they will be live or fake. I don't do all that good with live plants though. I will have gravel for the substrate. I think I will just go to Lowe's or some other home building store and get a bag of gravel there and make sure to rinse it out really well and use that.

So now I need help with the fish part. I wanted to put just one angelfish in the tank with a few other fish. Now my main questions:

1). If I did go with the one angelfish and other fish, what other fish could I put with it?
2). I'm pretty sure angelfish are freshwater right? Or am I wrong?
3). If I had an upside down catfish, what fish could I put with it?
4). If I put a dwarf puffer fish, what other fish could go with it?
5). Can dwarf puffers live in freshwater?

So right now the tank is cycling so I have 30 days to figure out what fish can go in there. Thanks!
And just any other neat combinations of fish would be helpful. Please list whether the groups of fish you list are active or for color, I don't care which.

A little background information:

I've successfully bred a pearlscale and a blackmoore when I was 12, and the fry got up to 5 months? I think... Then I got busy with my studies and forgot to take care of them...

I've made a monster out of breeding a molly and a swordtail, and later bred a fry with a guppy, they turned out good, but Hybridizing isn't my cup of tea..

About my Aquariums:
I have:
3 Small Containers
1 5-Gallon Tank(Currently with a small redfin Zebra)
1 15-Gallon Tank
1 20-Gallon tank

Also, kindly include the equipments I'll need.

I would like two kinds of plants for my tank. i'm a beginner so i would like plants that are easy to take care of and that my fish will not eat.

I want the first plant to be something short and grass like that I can put all over the gravel floor of my tank. However, I don't want it so thick that it covers up all the sea shells i have.

The other plant I want for a background, just so you cannot see what is behind my tank.I want it to be at least 12 inches tall and not very bushy.

I would like about 3 suggestions for each plant type.

Thanks
